Certified Long Term Care graduates have completed a rigorous multidisciplinary course that focuses on the profession of long-term care. The program is recognized by state regulators, through the granting of continuing education credits, as having provided essential information necessary to the appropriate sale of long-term care insurance.

The Corporation for Long-Term Care Certification, Inc. (CLTCC) has created the long-term care insurance industry's only third-party professional designation, "Certified in Long-Term Care" (CLTC). Thus, the CLTCC is not affiliated with any insurance company or supported financially by the long-term care insurance industry, allowing an agent to represent a number of insurance carriers and provide a variety of policies. The quality of the program is evidenced in the granting of continuing education credits by all states. CLTCC fosters professional standards in the field of long - term care planning and is responsible for creating and enforcing uniform standards of competency, practices, and ethics.

The "Certified in Long-Term Care" (CLTC) designation is obtained by taking a 7-part multi-disciplinary course. The program is offered in a 2-day classroom setting, referred to as the Master Class. The Master Class is taught nationally by CLTC trained instructors, all of whom have extensive experience in selling long-term care insurance. Students are also required to pass a written examination to receive the CLTC designation. The CLTC course reflects the nature of long-term care, which is a continuum of care, housing and services people may need when they live a long life. Students are provided the information and training needed to offer guidance to families on a range of issues including home care, assisted living, nursing homes, social services, taxes, law and most importantly, products available to pay for these resources.
